About this blog and me

Alastair Duncan

20 years experience

This blog started in 2007 as an experiment for a Cannes Lions seminar. At the time we wanted adland to explore serious consumer participation in brand ideas, neatly presaging the massive rise of social and what they now call the collaborative economy. One idea that grew out of that thinking is the creative network alternative genius.

About me I’m Strategy Director at The Auto Network, the UK’s top automotive lead generation business that we’re fast growing into a media business for the 21st century.

My other adventures include setting up the BBC’s first interactive TV network, founding Zentropy Partners, (UK Digital Agency of the Year three times), building MRM into a £20m business for Interpublic and establishing Jaguar Land Rover‘s brand agency Spark44.

I’ve advised both international corporations and energetic start ups on marketing and digital transformation, and have been part of the amazing evolution of ‘digital ideas’ from edgy outliers to fundamental and core to all business. Senior client experience includes BBC, Birds Eye, BMW, Coca-Cola, COI (UK Government), Dell, Intel, HP. Jaguar, L’Oreal, Mastercard, Microsoft, Mini, Nestle, The Newspaper Marketing Agency, Reebok, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Unilever.

Products developed under my watch include the BBC’s first interactive channel, the world’s first car configurator, NatWest’s online bank, Microsoft’s first Facebook application, Intel’s global web site, hundreds of ads for Sky, thousands of web pages for Microsoft, Jaguar’s global advertising, digital and social presence and a few other reasonably complicated pieces of software in pursuit of quality user experiences. I was honoured to be voted into the Digital Hot 100 in 2013.

For people interested in such things, I’ve judged Awards for Campaign, New Media Age, Marketing, Revolution, BIMA (as Joint Chair of Judges) and the DADIs for the Drum. I’m a Fellow of the RSA, Member of D&AD, a former Executive Director of BIMA, and one of the founders of the Digital Marketing Group at the IPA.
